Bb. Pilipinas 2016: A Heaping Bowl of Early Forecasts

$

It is still too early in the competition to make predictions as to the final output of Bb. Pilipinas 2016. So for now, allow me to come up with early Top 10 favorites, supported by a variety of categories that will seek to classify the Binibinis who are taking strong stands several days after their announcements as Official Candidates.

Let me start by sharing the ten (10) contenders I am starting to really like. This list and rankings will definitely change in the course of two (2) months, by which time I will be posting my final choices.

Kylie Verzosa is on top, followed by Kim Ross delos Santos. The difference between the two is far from negligible. But from what I have seen so far, the returnee is really staging her comeback in a big way. Nichole Manalo comes at 3rd, with a surprising appearance of newbie Jehza Huelar who is starting to gather a lot of supporters. Following this quartet are Maria Gigante, Maxine Medina, Tatiana Maher, Sheena Dalo, Angelique de Leon and Paula Rich Bartolome.

These ladies belong to my early Top 10 picks for Bb. Pilipinas 2016

As for the returnees, Kylie Verzosa remains on top. She exudes such a super different aura compared to 2015. You know that she really wants to win the top crown. Nichole Manalo follows her lead. This girl has really changed, face and projection-wise. The transformation is unmissable. And then there is good ‘ole Angelique de Leon. She remains in contention. Having learned her lessons from the last time she joined, this witty lass is definitely ready to stamp her class once and for all.

Kylie Verzosa, Nichole Manalo and Angelique de Leon are my most promising returnees

For the first-timers, it is easy to put Kim Ross delos Santos as the most promising of the three. During the screening, she did not turn on the heat just yet. But I am certain she will step it up big-time in the weeks to come. Once again, Jehza Huelar of Davao makes it to the list, and deservingly so. Completing the trio is Maria Gigante of Cebu. She may not be as tall, but she clearly knows how to leave her indelible mark.

Kim Ross delos Santos, Jehza Huelar and Maria Gigante are my most promising first-timers

As for the flag bearers per camp, my choices are automatic because they are really the lead entrants of each. Kylie Verzosa banners Aces & Queens, while Nichole Manalo holds the baton for KF. Angelique de Leon is the big sister and role model of R-L’s Angels, with Jeslyn Santos – another returnee – looking at making JDV proud. Finally, there is Jennyline Carla Malpaya to bring it on for the Galatea siblings.

My flag bearers per camp are: Kylie for A&Q, Nichole for KF, Angelique for R-L, Jeslyn for JDV and Jennyline for Galatea

Finally, we go to the potential big spoilers in this group and they are many. In fact, the six in the box below are still missing the company of a few more. At any rate, I would classify Nicole Cordoves, Maria Lina Prongoso, Apriel Smith, Joanna Louise Eden, Edjelyn Joy Gamboa and Jessica Gonzales as belonging to this classification. Just to spice it up a little more, I would add the likes of Marlann Flores, Angelica Alita and Kristin Angeli Estoque as probable thunder-stealers.

So which Binibinis are on your early list, dear readers? ;-)

Nicole Cordoves, Maria Lina Prongoso, Apriel Smith, Joanna Eden, Edjelyn Gamboa and Jessica Gonzales are my strongest spoilers for now

Two more support groups have been formed for Binibinis Jeslyn Santos & Paula Rich Bartolome

There’s more where they came from, these Bb. Pilipinas 2016 support groups. And they are looking nowadays as something like unwritten requisites in hyping the Binibinis for this batch. The more solid the fan base, the better.

Take for example the latest with Bb. Pilipinas 2015 Official Candidates Jeslyn Santos and Paula Rich Bartolome. They now have #JESterrific and #PowerPau behind their backs, respectively. And you should know what will happen next. Your Facebook news feeds will most likely be filled with cheers for their favorite contestants. So let’s hear it for these relatively unsung heroes who give their time and effort to back up our ladies. It’s not the easiest of volunteer jobs to follow, but the most fulfilling if everything ends well! :-)

The Binibinis from Bulacan in Bb. Pilipinas 2016

Bocaue, Hagonoy and Paombong – all in Bulacan – are beautifully represented in Bb. Pilipinas 2016

Bulacan Represent! And I couldn’t be happier that the province (where I also come from) is significantly bannered by three (3) Binibinis in the ongoing Bb. Pilipinas 2016.

There are Binibini 6 Candy Castillo of Bocaue and Binibini 10 Jeslyn Santos of Hagonoy, both from the JDV Camp. And then the tallest at 6’0 – Binibini 21 Jessica Gonzales of KF – is also there from Paombong.

This trio of Bulakenyas show how rich and diverse in beautiful Filipinas the historical province can really be. And I am looking forward to seeing how well they will step up to the tough competition in the nationals, because at least one of them is very likely to soar high in the coming weeks and months ahead.

Who do you think it will be, dear readers? :-)

Binibinis 6-10 for PLDT Home

Here now are Binibinis 6-10 of Bb. Pilipinas 2016 as they were photographed during their PLDT Home Tour during the weekend at SM Mall of Asia and Megamall, starting with:

Binibinis 6 Candy del Castillo, the teacher from Bocaue, Bulacan and Binibini 8 Karen Ibasco, the Medical Physicist from Manila who initially slipped past the judges’ nods during the screening but were luckily called back to replace two of the original 40 who were reviewed as not meeting the height requirements.

Binibini 7 Angelique de Leon – the only remaining R-L Angel – who is fiercely pushing forward in her bid for a crown this year after learning the points she may have fallen short of last 2014.

Binibini 9 Roshiela Tobias, the Registered Nurse from Pampanga who took a chance in screening as an independent, fortunately got selected to be an Official Candidate and is now a proud Aces & Queens bet.

And Binibini 10 Jeslyn Santos of Hagonoy, Bulacan, one of the several second-timers in Bb. Pilipinas who has been significantly re-trained by the JDV camp for this edition.

Who floats your boat among them, dear readers? ;-)

The fifteen Binibinis who did the talent auditions

The routines varied – from singing to dancing to monologues to more singing and dancing – but the one thing that any screening panelist can say is that we always have talented Binibinis around.

Fifteen (15) of the forty Bb. Pilipinas Official Candidates showed what they got during the Talent Auditions held recently. The actual competition as to who will eventually win Miss Talent has been scheduled this coming Saturday.

One of the following – Janelle Olafson, Angelique de Leon, Vina Openiano, Karen Ibasco, Edjelyn Gamboa, Jeslyn Santos, Alexandra Faith Garcia, Maria Lina Prongoso, Apriel Smith, Paula Rich Bartolome, Kristine Angeli Estoque, Jennyline Carla Malpaya, Maria Gigante, Niza Sabrina Limjap and Anjellica Lopez – will prove to be the Most Talented.

Let us see who will prevail. :-)

New Binibini 20 Geisha Naganuma (lower photo). completes the JDV quartet in Bb. Pilipinas 2016

Binibini 6 Candy del Castillo, Binibini 10 Jeslyn Santos, Binibini 40 Christianne Ramos and, now, Binibini 20 Geisha Naganuma. This beautiful quartet makes up the Team JDV bets of John dela Vega in Bb. Pilipinas 2016. The road to completing the four was not the smoothest, but the important thing is that they’re in for the fight.

We all know that only Jeslyn and Christianne qualified at first. But when height issues became hot topic and caused the exit of five previously-announced contenders, Candy entered the picture. And just recently, the controversial disqualification of original Binibini 20 Kim Ross delos Santos due to sexy photos led to the accommodation of Geisha as the latest.

There will always be strength in numbers. And these four ladies will surely uphold the banner of their camp with such pride. After all, their group was assembled the hard way. The rewards are so much sweeter now.

Now this is just a small trivia about Binibini 6 Candy del Castillo. JDV himself shared with your blogger that this Bocaue native is the big sister of a 2-month old baby after her 40 year-old gave birth to their youngest sibling. ;-)

Bulacan: The most heavily-represented Province in Bb. Pilipinas 2016

Candy, Jeslyn, Jessica, Geisha, Angela Gene and Jennyline Carla: Bulakenyas all!

It continuously warms the heart that my beloved Bulacan is the most heavily-represented Province in Bb. Pilipinas 2016. There are six (6) Binibinis representing different areas, with two (2) of them actually coming from the same town.

Let’s begin with Binibini 6 Candy del Castillo – the teacher from Bocaue, followed by Binibini 10 Jeslyn Santos – the model-athlete from Hagonoy (your blogger’s specific hometown). The two ladies are trailed by uber tall Binibini 21 Jessica Gonzales – who comes from a family of OFWs in Paombong. Adding to the mix is the pretty Binibini 23 Angela Gene Valdes – the cosplayer from Meycauayan. And last but not the least, the two entries of Marilao – Binibini 20 Geisha Naganuma and Binibini 32 Jennyline Carla Malpaya.

Six Binibinis. One Province. Bulacan.

It only goes to show that there are indeed a lot of lovely Filipinas from one of the most historic parts of the country. Who will shine bright among them? Will Bulacan have reason/s to celebrate by the time the new Bb. Pilipinas titleholders are crowned on April 17?

Who’s your bet among them, dear readers?:-)

It was a successful staging of the 37th Flores de Mayo 2016 at the SM Mall of Asia yesterday afternoon till early evening. Thirty (30) designers – all members of the Fashion Designers Association of the Philippines and the Congrecacion del Santisimo Nombre Del Niño Jesus – showed off their best creations while paying homage to the Virgin Mary and the Glorious Mysteries of the Holy Rosary.

Announced as Rosa Mystica is Joyce Ann Ricio wearing a Rholand Roxas number that is intricately-detailed from the crown all the way down to the train. Coming in as Reina de las Flores is Bb. Pilipinas 2016 alumna Jeslyn Santos who gave justice to the oh-so breathtaking Louis Pangilinan white ensemble that takes a wide circumference of the stage and the floor area to navigate around. La Flor de Manila is gorgeous Miss Tourism Queen of the Year International 2015 Leren Mae Bautista in an elegant red Filipiniana that she paraded around with such pride and joy. Completing the four winners are Magandang Pilipina Stephany Stefanowitz who was dressed by Designer Vince Sityar in another red original that the wearer handled with such ease and sophiatication.

Here are photos taken by your blogger and Joy Arguil.

Pageant owner John dela Vega was visibly happy with the healthy turnout of ladies as he was already able to assemble at least half of the Official Candidates who will vie for the crowns at stake come August 10 at the Tanghalang Pasigueno. Winners will represent the country in Miss World Peace, Miss Bikini Universe and Charity Queen International.

Let’s follow this beauty competition and see who will shine even more once the real beauty battle begins.😉

Jeslyn Santos for Miss United Continents 2016

Look who’s bound for Guayaquil, Ecuador this coming September. It’s Bb. Pilipinas 2016 Official Candidate Jeslyn Santos who will soon be announced as Miss United Continents Philippines 2016 on the FB page of Miss United Continents. This is the big actualization of her search for another international pageant representation and the fruits of her patience will finally be put once more in a mission in South America. She effectively succeeds Anabel Christine Tia who was our entry in 2015.

Here’s wishing Jeslyn the best for this pageant mission!:-)

Jeslyn Santos: Gearing up for Miss United Continents 2016

Very soon, Miss United Continents Philippines 2016 Jeslyn Santos will be departing for Guayaquil, Ecuador where she will wear the country’s sash for Miss United Continents 2016 happening from September 8-28. This will be her most important pageant representation abroad as it will have far more candidates for a competition that has always been dominated by Latin Americans (as all of its previous and reigning winners are Latinas).

Jeslyn (in photos here by Tyke King) has prepared long and hard for this. All the learnings she accumulated from Miss World Peace 2015 plus two Bb. Pilipinas stints will work in her favor as she goes up against the serious challenge being posed by the other confirmed delegates for the same.

And if you can support our bet in the Miss United Continents | Miss Photogenic Poll, please do so by casting votes for her.

Today, Miss United Continents Philippines 2016 Jeslyn Santos will be departing for Guayaquil, Ecuador (via Amsterdam) to represent the country in the Miss United Continents 2016 which will have its finals on September 24.

Jeslyn – my kababayan from Hagonoy, Bulacan – will have her hands full once she arrives in the Ecuadorian capital. She needs to compete well and exceed the Top 10 placement of her predecessor Anabel Christine Tia last year. But our girl is ready. She’s got all bases covered as you can read in excerpts from John dela Vega’s Press Release below:

“…To prepare for the competition, Jeslyn studied Spanish culture and language. She also underwent intensive physical training with Gold’s Gym under the supervision of Fitness Guru Mr. Angelo Mendez. For her pasarela projection, beauty queen-maker and trainer Mr. John Dela Vega who is also the National Director mand franchise holder of Miss United Continents left nothing untouched.

“Polishing and perfecting everything from head to foot was the goal and I’m happy with the result. She has an even stronger walk and gait this time. I’m confident she’ll make us proud”, says John. The entire team assembled an impeccable wardrobe for her with the help of stylist Domz Ramos and pageant trainer Jojo Mangalino. Designers Cathy Capistrano, North Paril Ortiz and Lou Vella are providing her gowns while her casual and cocktail outfits are from Julius Jaguio of Pegarro Clothing, accents by Cathy Mora Caspistrano and Alfie Jolo Desamparado. her “sinulog” national costume inspired by the country’s national flower Sampaguita and South Sea Peals is designed by Cebu based designer Lemuel Rosos.”

Best of luck, Jeslyn! Do us proud!

Two Filipinas are in the thick of international competition abroad right now, and I have a feeling that both of them are being noticed very well by the host organizers based on the number of photos being posted in the respective Facebook pages.

Jeslyn Santos – Miss Filipinas in Guayaquil’s Miss United Continents 2016 – and Nancy Leonard for Wenzhou’s Miss Tourism Queen International 2016 are giving it their absolute best. Their pageants may not have the glitz and glamour of Miss Universe, but you still have to give a hand to the hosts for keeping things together and delivering a credible run of pre-pageant proceedings so far.

I know that both ladies want to win their respective assignments to justify their selections as representatives of our country. Let’s follow their separate roads to victory. The cheers and mora support will definitely uplift their spirits even more.

Jeslyn wins in Guayaquil

Screenshot by screenshot, Jeslyn’s victory during the Live Streaming

Last night, an Ecuadorian lass won Miss Global 2016 in Manila. This morning, a Filipina beauty claimed Miss United Continents 2016 in Guayaquil. Just an interesting detail (similar to what happened years back when Riyo Mori won Miss Universe in Mexico and Priscila Perales got Miss International in Japan) surrounding the very pleasant victory of Jeslyn Santos as she became the first Filipina and Asian to win the Ecuador-based title. This is a sweet vindication for the determined Bulakenya (we share the same hometown on Hagonoy, Bulacan) who never stopped believing in her determination to bring honor to the country. This is also an achievement for her mentor John dela Vega who continuously pushed her ward to reach the top.

Jeslyn’s court is made up of the entries from Denmark, India, Brazil, Mexico and Panama, in that order.

Congratulations, Jeslyn!

So proud of you!😀

Miss United Continents 2016

Miss Global 2016

Miss Tourism Queen International 2016

What is the common denominator among the three (3) international beauty pageants which crowned its 2016 winners all in a matter of three days?

Miss Philippines, of course!

First, there is Miss United Continents 2016 in Guayaquil, Ecuador won by our very own Jeslyn Santos. In the process, she became the first Asian and Filipino to finish on top in the same.

And then there is Miss Global 2016 held at the PICC Plenary Hall last Saturday. Angela Bonilla of Ecuador may have clinched the title, but her 1st Runner-Up (and closest pursuer) is Miss Philippines Camille Hirro.

Thirdly, the Miss Tourism Queen International 2016 finals was held last night in Wenzhou, China. Anu Namshir (who also took part in Miss World 2015 in Sanya) was chosen as the winner. Miss Philippines Nancy Leonard made it to the Top 10 and was given the Best in Long Gown award afterwards.

These three results speak a lot about the strong participation of the country in the global pageant stage. And the titles are not even categorized in the big league.

Wait till you see what Jennifer Hammond, Nicole Cordoves and Kylie Verzosa will do this October.😉

The Return of Miss United Continents 2016 Jeslyn Santos

A close-up of the crown

With John dela Vega

Fresh from her successful conquest of the crown in Guayaquil, Ecuador, Miss United Continents 2016 Jeslyn Santos returned home to Manila amidst the warm reception given by friends and supporters plus selected members of the media. The 23 year-old Bulakenya was visibly elated by the rousing welcome she received and was even game enough to repeat the answer she gave during the finals in Spanish (watch below).

Jeslyn will donate part of her cash winnings to Red Cross, as she herself stated. And aside from this arrival presscon, a separate Victory Party will be hosted on her behalf this coming October 1.

From all of us here at normannorman.com, let me congratulate you once more for a job well done.

Mabuhay ka, Jeslyn!😀

Christine Joy Picardal wins Miss Diamond of the World in Algeria

Christine Joy Picardal went to Algiers with a mission. She was chosen to represent the Philippines in the first international beauty pageant that was held in the North African country of Algeria and won.

Last night, this La Union native has just been crowned Miss Diamond of the World 2016 at the Sofitel Algiers. There was very little noise of her participation in the said competition. But now that she has proven herself worthy of the victory, a warm welcome awaits upon her return to the country soon.

Christine’s achievement proves that the Filipina is indeed world-class. After Miss United Continents 2016 Jeslyn Santos, Miss Global 2016 1st Runner-Up Camille Hirro, Mister Universal Ambassador 2016 2nd Runner-Up/ Mister Southeast Asia International 2016 Andrea Biondo, Man of the Year 2016 Karan Singhdole and Miss Asia 2016 Trixia Maria Marana, plus the Top 10 Finish of Nancy Leonard in Miss Tourism Queen International 2016, this definitely adds up to the growing list of excellent finishes for the year. And I have a good feeling there will be more in the bigger events up ahead.

Congratulations to you, Tine!

Congratulations, Christine!

October 19 was like Jeslyn Santos day in the Province of Bulacan as the newly-crowned Miss United Continents 2016 was given her well-deserved hero’s welcome and motorcade that started from the Bulacan Provincial Capitol including alma mater Bulacan State University and worked its way to the Municipality of Paombong en route to the final stop – the Municipality of Hagonoy – where our Pride was born and raised.
Jeslyn was met by Bulacan Governor Willy Sy Alvarado and Vice-Governor Daniel Fernando before the motorcade started. Then it was a big parade that reached a feverish pitch the minute the float arrived in Hagonoy where Mayor Amboy Manlapaz greeted her and gave a big reception attended by many local officials, loved ones and friends. Here are more photos from the whole day affair courtesy of the Municipality of Hagonoy.

Five Asian winners in the international pageant stage for 2016 so far

Even in male pageants, Asian men are not lagging behind

Thailand won Miss Tourism Metropolitan International as well

To date, 2016 has been a harvest-filled year for Asians in the global pageant stage – both female and male categories. Miss International, Miss Supranational, Miss Grand International, The Miss Globe, Miss United Continents and Miss Tourism Metropolitan International have reigning winners from the continent courtesy of Kylie Verzosa, Srinidhi Shetty, Ariska Putri Pertiwi, Dimple Patel, Jeslyn Santos and Chalisa Amanda respectively.

On the other side, Mister World, Mister Model International, Mister Tourism World and Man of the Year are also now being held by Asians via Rohit Khandelwal, Narapat Sakunsong, Okkar Min Maung and Karan Singhdole respectively.

And the year is not over yet. With three more finals coming in soon – Miss World, Miss Tourism International and Miss Tourism Queen of the Year International – I bet the number will increase.

And mind you, I did not even include Miss Asia which has a Filipina titleholder as this contest is continent-focused.

Truly, Asia is in its best year of performance in international pageantry.🙂
